That cool, crisp weather is here again and after pulling out all my transitional clothes from storage, I was completely underwhelmed. Unfortunately, that was the same reaction I had when I looked in my wallet. But I’ve drawn up an action plan to help put some pizazz into my dull fall wardrobe from last year. And it won’t require charging up my credit cards, hitting my family up for cash or anything illegal, for that matter. My strategy involves what I like to call the three sales: retail sales, resale shops and wholesale fashion jewellery sites.

Rack up fall finds from the clearance rack

You can get a lot of the prior season’s surplus for next to nothing right now. Just pass by the rounders’ and racks in the front of the store full of this season’s high-priced must-haves and make your way back to the clearance area.

Instead of pastels and florals, look for darker colors or geometric prints in tees and tank tops, then go for layering pieces like sweaters and long-sleeved shirts that can turn sleeveless summer savvy into warmer autumn layers. For bottoms, you might be able to snag some jeans or pants from last season. Again, choose darker solids.

One person’s resale is another person’s vintage

A great way to look like a fashionista without going broke is the art of resale shopping. Knowing what to look for is the key, so flipping through fashion magazines for what’s hot and what’s not will keep you on track.

Learning which labels are significant can help, but a well-made knock off can still be considered a great fashion find. Resale shops, just like major retailers, clear out the past season’s merchandise, so what was already a good deal is now an unbelievable one! Look for layering basics that can pass for transitional wear.

Cut out the middle man with just a click

Along with selling to retailers, a popular trend is for wholesale vendors to offer their merchandise directly to the general public via their own online stores. Many times the manufacturer sells the items at the same prices as they sell to their retail clients. And, I don’t know about you, but I’d rather pay wholesale than retail any day, especially on my current no-frills budget.

Search for wholesale fashion jewellery on the Internet and you’ll strike fashion gold. And you don’t have to settle for last year’s leftovers. These sites offer the hottest trends that will help you pull together all your fashion finds. Look for fall accessories like scarves, boots, chunky jewelry and sweaters to autumn-ize your wardrobe.
