Usually when you read a fashion piece, you’ll notice that it’s directed at girls and women. While that’s all very well and good, men should consider what they are wearing as well. Wearing the right clothing will stimulate employer and workplace approval, will increase your chances of getting a date with that girl you like and can even help get you noticed for promotion.
Luckily, unlike girls, you don’t have to go shopping every week to keep up with the latest fashions. It’s neither necessary nor approved by men in general. Instead, you’ll want to find a few basic essentials to base your wardrobe of and then go from there. Of course, if you want to wear the latest fashions as well, feel free.
White Dress Shirt
No matter where you are or what you’re doing, you can use a white dress shirt. This shirt can be worn on its own to parties, under a blazer to business casual work or under a suit for something more formal. The only important things to consider are that it has to fit you well, have buttons and not be overly decorated. Other than that, pretty much any white button down shirt will do.
The Polo shirt is one of those classic items that you can wear literally anywhere. Put it on with dress pants and head to work, with skinny jeans for a date or with khaki shorts for a day at the park. A polo shirt is versatile, easy to wear and very easy to dress up with just about anything. Polo shirts are famously popular with the college crowd, so it’s a great way to make yourself look intelligent when you apply for a job or just whenever.
Sure watches are usually considered outdated and a thing of the past, but even though most people use their phone to tell time, watches still make great accessories. Think the decorative value of a bracelet without being purely for looks. Watches will say something about your personal style and personality (and usually they’ll be pretty charming). A watch tells a potential employer that you are confident and on time and will tell everyone else that you’re thoughtful, interested in your appearance and have great taste. That is of course, unless you choose a multi-coloured plastic watch.
Dress shoes can be worn to any formal or semi-formal occasion and should almost always be black. Dress shoes are great for wearing to a job interview, to a dinner with your girlfriend’s parents, or just whenever you have to dress up a little bit. While they probably won’t be every day wear, you might find that you wear them a lot more than you think. If you know you’re going to be wearing them a lot then try choosing a pair that you can insert gel soles into, or that advertise being comfortable for long periods of time.
A simple blazer in navy, black or dark grey will look good with anything and can add a touch of instant class to pretty much any outfit (within limits). Wear a blazer over jeans for a semi-formal look, wear with dress pants for a formal look or wear over a t-shirt or polo for something a little more casual. Remember what I said about men not needing to keep up with style? The blazer is one of the best reasons. It is classic, looks good with everything and is always in style.
Want a pair of pants that you can wear to work, on days off or just whenever? Chinos or Khakis are it. While there are some small variations between these two types of pants, you won’t have to worry about not having a suitable pair of pants with either of these models. However; these pants are usually a little more relaxed, so the only place you can’t wear them to is a formal event. Chinos are usually a light tan or khaki colour, which makes them go great with black, tan, white and a variety of other colours.
Probably the most versatile item in any wardrobe is the polo shirt because you can wear it literally anywhere. Look online to get polo shirts at a great price and in as many colours as you like.
